Who we are

Our well-qualified teachers are passionate about instilling a love of learning in each student.  Most importantly they desire to introduce students to the Creator of the universe.  Emphasis is placed on character training, personal integrity, and developing logic and creative thinking skills.  Our staff partners with parents to meet students’ needs and to find ways to serve our local and global communities.

Why Appalachian Christian School

The Mission

ACS is a caring Christ-centered institution that partners with parents in the training of students to love God with their heart, soul, mind, and strength; to equip them according to the foundational knowledge and wisdom contained in God’s Word; to be servant leaders who follow God’s leading and purpose for their life.

The Vision

ACS seeks to create an environment where students experience a personal relationship with God which results in a desire to know and understand God’s Word.  Through the revealed word of God, students learn to walk in His ways by modeling personal prayer and devotion, obedience to God’s laws, Christ-like character, and right relationships with others; so that God is glorified through the service of our graduate leaders.

Our Core Values

ACS is an independent non-denominational ministry.  Its purpose is to provide a Bible-based curriculum taught in a Christ-centered environment.  The focus on spiritual and academic disciplines is intended to develop students into life-long learners who are devoted followers of Christ.

Emphasis will be placed on Christian conduct and values that will aid students in making wise life choices.  Christian decision-making, logical thinking skills, and creative thinking will be used to help students reach their potential and develop a Christ-like self-image.

Finally, students will be led to develop a personal relationship with Jesus through daily prayer and Bible study, to find and do God’s will, to discover their individual gifts, and to enhance their abilities in such a way that would be pleasing to God.

Our Promise

ACS realizes that its program cannot be successful without the support and involvement of its parents.  The school will serve as a bridge to connect to help support the Christian home.  We feel it is important that the school and parents partner in a spirit of cooperation that will benefit both the children and the community.  The school’s purpose is not to replace the home but to serve as a resource and to provide guidance for parents in the training of their children to be Christ-like leaders in their communities.

Curriculum

The academic year is 36 weeks in length, encompassing two semesters, each with two grading periods of nine weeks. The academic program for the upper school is organized on a combination of blocks and traditional schedules. The Dual Credit Program enables juniors and seniors to enroll in freshman courses and earn college credits as well as high school credits at local institutions of higher education. Students must meet the entrance qualifications of the selected college in order to be enrolled. Students must maintain a high school GPA of 3.0 in order to receive dual credit. Dual college credit classes taken at institutions of higher education are weighted by one point. AP® courses are not offered. Students who work independently on AP® course requirements and receive a score of three or higher on the AP® exam will receive class credit weighted by one point.

They’ve said about us

  • Afton Christian School is a phenomenal educational facility. Before attending ACS, my children were average students. After ACS, I have seen a tremendous positive influence in their lives.  They are motivated and are competitive in sports, as well as academics. Afton Christian School fosters a loving Christian atmosphere that enables my children to thrive and excel. The care, attention, and challenge that are provided to each of my children enhance their desire to learn and to be proactive with their education and decisions in life.  If you have a desire for your child to flourish academically, supersede your expectations, and become prosperous members of society, Afton Christian School is the perfect fit!
